Virtual examination is the employment of Computer Tomography (CT) and Electron Beam Tomography (EBT) to allow medical specialists and physicians to scan and screen the patient's body for prevention and treatment of diseases. Screening is the term generally applied when the objective is to discover potential problems and to implement measures in advance of serious complications.

Presently the "full body" scan utilizing EBT techniques is drawing the most attention on a national scale. Under this scanning process the patient, fully clothed, lies on an examining table in proximity to the electron beam device. Once relaxed and reclining, an ultra high-speed electron beam traverses the body from the shoulders to the hips. The scan takes mere seconds with minimal radiation and produces extremely detailed 3-D images. So detailed, in fact, they are often called "virtual images" by the technicians who do the scanning.

The exceptionally clear graphics provided are often viewed on site by the requesting physician who sees the patient's body from every angle. However, if a private more intimate evaluation is desired the graphic frames may be transmitted to another location or simply placed on file for convenient examination at a later time.

Particularly effective in coronary artery scans, EBT can provide vital information that will immediately prevent or reverse heart disease or other organ damaging illnesses. A clean screening may also relieve tension and provide a "clean bill of health" into the future for a concerned or emotionally sensitive patient.
