, Fl., December 11, 2000 - HeartTest, the EBT (Electron
Beam Tomography) facility in , Florida,
which currently features the Heart Scan, Lung Scan and
Body Scan for the early detection of heart disease, cancer,
and other conditions, announces today that they will be
offering the state-of-the-art EBA procedure with the Imatron
Beam Angiography (EBA) is a procedure that allows us
to image the arteries of the body, including the coronary
arteries, and is a desirable option to the traditional
cardiac catheterization procedure for many patients.
The EBA procedure takes approximately 20 minutes at
the HeartTest facility, only requires an intravenous
injection of contrast, and requires no significant recovery
period, no disrobing, and no use of catheters. The traditional
cardiac catheterization usually requires a hospital
stay, involves the insertion of catheters through the
aorta and into the heart, involves significant risk,
and is a very costly procedure.
are very pleased and excited to bring EBA to South Florida
and to our HeartTest center. To be able to image the
coronary arteries without inserting catheters into the
patient's body is a major breakthrough in medical technology.
I am proud to be associated with HeartTest, the only
facility in the state of Florida to offer this state-of-the-art
procedure," said Dr. Joseph T. Horgan, Medical
Director for HeartTest.
Medical Director, Dr. Joseph T. Horgan, is a well-known
South Florida Cardiologist who has practiced invasive
and non-invasive cardiology in South Florida for the
past 16 years. Dr. Horgan's credentials include: Past
Chief of Staff of Memorial Hospital Pembroke, fellow
in the American College of Cardiology and the American
College of Physicians, founder of University Heart Institute
Cardiovascular Group, founder of Memorial Hospital Pembroke
cardiac catheterization laboratory, director of Memorial
Hospital West cardiac catheterization laboratory.
HeartTest center is conveniently located next to the
Pembroke Lakes Mall, just a short distance from I-75.
HeartTest has been providing Heart Scans and Lung Scans
to patients since May 2000, and just recently began
offering the full Body Scan, for the early detection
of heart disease and cancer. Using the Imatron EBT scanner,
HeartTest is able to offer patients "gold standard"
technology, which is up to 15 times faster than conventional
CT scanners, and has been substantiated by hundreds
of medical studies.
