Lung Scans

Learn more OR Schedule Appointment 1-(877)432-7830 OR Click HereHealthTest uses EBT technology to obtain the highest resolution CT images of the lungs possible. This is used to evaluate for lung cancer and other diseases of the lung. HealthTest EBT lung scans can identify lung disease 6 times earlier than conventional chest x-rays. And just like heart disease - the earlier lung cancer is detected the better the chances for successful treatment and possible cure.

What is Lung Cancer?

Lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal lung tissue, which can destroy normal lung tissue and spread to other parts of the body leading to destruction of other organs and eventually death. 170,000 Americans are diagnosed with lung cancer each year. The five-year survival rate without early surgery is only 12 %. Early diagnosis of lung cancer is critical to saving lives from this deadly disease.

Who is at risk for developing lung cancer?

Although lung cancer can occur in anyone, it is predominantly seen in smokers, former smokers or individuals exposed to second hand smoke, other toxic fumes or asbestos. People who have a family history of lung disease and/or are experiencing symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing or chest pain may also be candidates for this test.

Can lung cancer be cured?

Yes. The earlier the cancer is found the greater the chance of cure. EBT can find lung cancer earlier than any other non-invasive technology.

How does the EBT pulmonary nodule screening program work?

Lung cancer screening (also known as Pulmonary nodule screening) became popular after the release of a landmark study in a prestigious medical journal called “The Lancet” in July 1999. The purpose of the study was to save lives by detecting lung cancer at an earlier, more curable state. The general recommendations of this study were to screen patients at risk of lung cancer by low dose lung scanning. If a pulmonary nodule, without malignant features, less than 10 millimeters in size, was found, a series of scans was recommended over a two-year period to assess for growth or other changes. If no change was noted over two years it was diagnosed as benign (no cancer). If growth or other changes were seen or the nodule was larger than 10 millimeters, than additional testing or biopsy was recommended.

Why have a HealthTest EBT Lung Scan?

Lung cancer can grow undetected for many years before it causes symptoms or can be detected by chest x-ray. An EBT lung scan can detect lung cancer much earlier and allow a much better chance for cure.

What is involved for the patient having a HealthTest EBT Lung Scan?

The patient is asked to complete a conventional risk factor questionnaire and then instructed about the procedure. Studies are completed in a few minutes as multiple images are obtained during one breath-hold. There are no injections, no discomfort and no need to undress.
